Supporting Health and Wellness Professionals!
A new year brings reflection on how we have lived our lives and how we want the coming time to be used. It is a time of both celebration and meloncholy as we make note of another passing year and the changes it has brought. Babies are born and those who have passed on before us are remembered. We and the people we are supporting as caregivers and health providers will also feel the tug of grief and the power of choosing to change. As a helper we can support others on their journey but can only decide and be responsible for our own choices
Nothing Remains - Ja Jai Taje Jaina Ja Pai Ta Thakena Whatever appears to leave us Actually does not leave. Whatever appears to stay with us Actually does not stay. Nothing remains. Everything is a mystery Of constant gain and loss.

Living Like You Were In TuscanyMichael Arloski, Ph.D., PCC
Walking along a thousand year-old footpath through an olive grove above the crashing Mediterranean I am greeted...by everyone. "Buon giorno!" Locals, tourists from four different continents, we all greet each other with a smile and "Buon giorno!". I am walking because there are no cars in the villages along this rugged coastline, just the train that burrows through the rocky cliffs, boats, and the footpath. When I get to the next village there will be cafés with outdoor tables where olives from the groves I have hiked through will end up in oil and on the table and in many other forms. The menu will contain choices that would put an ear-to-ear grin on my cardiologist and conversation will be easy to strike up with others.
If I were a "local" I would no doubt be sitting in that café soon to be joined by friends and or family that all live nearby. We might share an espresso or perhaps a glass of wine. We would have our share of life's problems but at least we would not be adding to them so much by the way we live each day. Read more
Caregivers Grieve, Too!
Grief is the personal experience of loss. However, it is not just the loss experienced through the death of a loved one. Change, illness, or the loss of hopes, plans, and dreams can trigger the emotions associated with grief. Seldom, however, is the sorrow of caregivers acknowledged by caregivers themselves or by others. By developing an awareness of the emotions inherent in care giving we can develop creative healing strategies to help caregivers work through their grief experiences. Read more
Loss and Gain
Protecting and nurturing your health and emotional well being by communicating your needs assertively in your relationships is a part of taking self-responsibility for your actions. Other important parts of self-responsibility include:
- Acknowledging that you are solely responsible for the choices in your life.
- Accepting that you are responsible for what you choose to feel or think.
- Accepting that you choose the direction for your life.
- Accepting that you cannot blame others for the choices you have made.
- Recognizing that you are your best cheerleader; it is not reasonable or healthy for you to depend on others to make you feel good about yourself.
- Recognizing that as you enter maturity, you determine how your self-esteem will develop.
- Taking preventive health oriented steps of structuring your life with time management, stress management, confronting fears, and burnout prevention.
- Taking an honest inventory of your strengths, abilities, talents, virtues, and positive points.
